![]() ![]() Again because Truman is so stuck in his routine, nothing fazes him until something completely out of the ordinary happens. As he walks to his car the neighbors dog jumps on him on cue, like every other morning. He doesn’t know this is his catchphrase because he has no clue that his entire life has been televised for the world to see. He leaves to work and says to the neighbors, “Good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!” We come to find out that this is his catchphrase in a reality show centered around him. In the beginning of this film Truman starts his day off like any other day. One of the main ways that we create a delusional view of reality is by getting into patterns that we perceive to be normal. Main character Truman Burbank is an example of a person who lived his life, reacting to what happened to him, instead of making the world react to him. Until we reach a certain point in our lives, we all seem to have a very simple, formulaic and somewhat delusional view of the world around us. The Truman show instantly became one of my favorites because the entire film is filled with a bevy of philosophical messages about how most people view reality. Over the years I have found myself drawn towards films that play with the concept of reality.
